Forming a team is a great way to encourage family and friends to participate in the Autism Society Central Virginia 5K Run/Walk. Many families form teams to honor their loved ones with autism, while others form a group based on a place of work, club or civic organization. Over 93 teams participated last year and we are looking forward to new teams joining us this year. The easiest way to form a team is by registering online. You will be guided through the process as you register.
The person who would like to be the team captain should register first and provide the team name when prompted. Then, let your friends and family know that your team has been formed! When your friends and family register, they can register through the “join an existing team” button and will be automatically linked and added to your roster. It’s that easy!
When a new person joins your team, any fundraising they do online will also be added to your team total. If teammates want to register via the mail in form, please be sure that they provide your team name. We will add them to your team in our records, but unfortunately, we can not add them to the group online. For this reason, we highly encourage team members to register online if possible.

Team Captains are eligible for a few special awards:
1. Largest Team- An award for the Team with the most registered participants.
2. Highest Fundraising by a Team- An award for the Team that raises the most money by race day.
3. The Don Mayfield Award – An award for the team with the most spirit. Dr. Don Mayfield was a founding member of the annual ASCV 5k and served on the ASCV board. His passion for helping the autism community is commemorated each year with this special award. Each year, one team is chosen for this honor, based on the spirit and creativity of the team.
BIBS & T-SHIRTS
Many teams designate themselves with special tshirts, hats, or signs. Your team may walk with a sign or banner, provided you are mindful of the runners and yield to the other participants. Please do not block the way of the returning runners on the race course.
