Whether you or your loved one are considering housing for the first time or transitioning between services, explore the resources below to learn more about vouchers, rental assistance, and applying community living waivers.

Supported Living

These programs take place in an apartment setting operated by a DBHDS licensed provider and provide ’round the clock’ availability staff. Direct support services are performed by paid staff who have the ability to respond in a timely manner enabling individuals to reside successfully in their home and community, (Support Living includes the Family & Individual Supports and Community Living Waivers.)

These programs take place in a DBHDS licensed family home where the homeowners are paid caregivers (“sponsors”) who provide support as necessary so that the individual can reside successfully in the home and community. (Sponsored Residential Services include the Community Living Waiver.)

These programs are provided in a DBHDS licensed home with staff available 24 hours per day to provide skill building and other direct supports as necessary to enable each person to reside successfully in the community. ( Group Home Residential includes the Community Living Waivers.)

Housing Voucher and Rental Assistance

The Housing Choice Voucher Special Admissions Preference Program and the State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) both provide rent assistance to eligible people with developmental disabilities in the Settlement Agreement population. 

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) accepts referrals from DD Support Coordinators and Private Case Managers for individuals in the target population that would like to live in their own rental housing with appropriate supports. DBHDS has created a State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) to serve individuals with developmental disabilities in the Settlement Agreement population who want to live in their own rental housing. The program is designed to provide rental assistance to single person families that meet the program eligibility criteria so they have the means to lease private market rental housing that meets their needs. Learn more about the State Rental Assistance Program.
