Early Intervention Support & Services

The ASCV recognizes the importance of early intervention and support for young children across the autism spectrum. Because each child has different needs and abilities, the ASCV supports an individualized approach that addresses the core characteristics of autism spectrum disorders (e.g., communication, social, sensory, academic difficulties) and matches the family’s preferences and needs.

Early Intervention (EI) is a program authorized under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that supports infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. It is sometimes called Part C of IDEA. EI serves children from birth through age 2 (and up to age 3 in some cases) by providing services and supports that help them build important skills such as walking, talking, eating, and social interaction. The goal of early intervention is to help children reach developmental milestones and better keep pace with their peers. Research shows that receiving early intervention services can lead to better outcomes later in life.
