August Adventures at the ASCV

We SPLASHED into fun this August, kicking off the good times at the RVA Duck Race and Festival of Inclusion!
Together we enjoyed a day of festive and inclusive community fun at Brown’s Island with live music, sensory activities, food trucks, and more! We wrapped up the day watching as 18,000 ducks launched into the canal & raced to the finish line, before crowning 1 LUCKY DUCK as the winner of the RVA Duck Race!

We kept up the good times and dove into new adventures with the iCan Swim Program, where our intrepid swimmers spent a week learning valuable water safety skills and pursuing their aquatic goals. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers, funders, and partners who helped make this program possible: iCan Shine, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, Step into Swim, and Richmond Downtown Marriott.

Our friends at Beyond Boundaries helped us enjoy even more time on the water, hosting our participants for rafting on the James with RVA Paddlesports and Pontoon boat rides!

We hosted multiple support groups and social groups throughout the month for our community, as well as one of our most popular monthly programs, Respite night! We capped off the month by exploring our creative side as we explored new art mediums with Art on Wheels!

With recent data showing an increase in autism diagnosis rates to 1 in 36 children, it is clear that the programs and services that we provide at the ASCV are more critical than ever.

We would like to give a huge thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Your support has helped the ASCV continue to provide support and services to our local autism community.
